In The Season of the Warlock, you just want some recognition for your work in studying the dark arts. So, you move to an old manor that used to belong to a powerful warlock, and an adventure ensues.
In The Season of the Warlock, you do go from controlling Nigel to controlling Lord Alistair Ainsworth, depending on what is going on. This is a point and click adventure game with lots of dark and vintage horror. After getting introduced to Nigel, Lord Alistair’s left hand man, you find the controls and some of the background information to this grim story.
Nigel is just doing the best he can, trying to keep the peace and help motivate Lord Alistair, while Lord Alistar is only focused on playing with the dark arts. Through all of his time studying and learning about the warlock he wishes to understand, he finds himself with a single decision to make; get rid of the spirit of this warlock or work with the warlock to complete an old promise – one to kill many other spirits within the world.
I got the chance to play The Season of the Warlock at the Valencia Indie Summit, and found that this decision is presented very early on in the game, and the rest of your actions depend completely on whichever you pick. If you’d like to stop your studies and get rid of the spirit once and for all, you’ll need to take on a quest to try to get rid of the soul. Otherwise, you will need to track down a bunch of probably dead people in hopes of eliminating them from Earth so that this warlock’s spirit can rest.
I am sure that you’d agree, this is a pretty fun idea to take on. Alistair is a very interestingly-written character, as is Nigel, and they both are entertaining to play around with. A lot of the humor in the game is dark, and the horror aspects aren’t too scary, providing an interesting adventure to take on.
The Season of the Warlock is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its creation on the game’s site.
